RAN is a song released by the YouTuber Deji on November 26th, 2018. This song was a diss track aimed at frequent Sidemen collaberator and cameraman Randolph as a part of a feud between the two originating from Randolph's comments about Deji's popularity. This song led to Deji becoming embroiled in a feud with his own brother; fellow YouTuber KSI.
Background
[edit | edit source]This song was the second diss track created in the feud between Deji and Randolph. This feud began on November 18th, 2018 when in a Sidemen video titled Sidemen Family Fortunes.[1] This video followed the Sidemen as they participated in a Famiily Feud inspired game show hosted by KSI. When asked to name a "dead" YouTube channel, Randolph replied with "Deji" as his answer.
Deji would respond to this on November 21st, calling Randolph the Sidemen and KSI's bitch.[2]
Randolph would respond with a diss track called MANCHILD on November 24th where he insulted Deji for not being able to take jokes as well as making fun of him for his departure from the Sidemen house as well as Deji living in KSI's shadow. He also alleges stories of Deji having trouble with women, drug use, and financial issues.[3]
Song
[edit | edit source]In response to Randolph's song, Deji released a diss track of his own titled RAN on November 26th.[4] In this song Deji makes fun of Randolph for being obese and for Randolph also being in KSI's shadow. He also predicts that Randolph and his wife Laura would divorce, which would later come true in 2023.[5]
An aspect of this song that would cause frequent mockery, both upon release and long after, was the chorus which included the phrase "Yeah, he ran, hiding like he's Anne". This is a refrence to the story of Anne Frank; a German-born Jewish Holocaust victim who died at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. Her story was popularized when her diary was published as The Diary of a Young Girl in 1948 which detailed the Frank family's life hiding from the Nazis in an attic after the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands in 1940.
Notably, Deji would state that KSI paid for Randolph's wedding, with the music video for RAN showing KSI's bank statement.
